About Official Plant Mommy

Official Plant Mommy started long before it had a name.

I grew up spending time at my grandma’s house in Southern California, where nearly half an acre was filled with cactus, succulents, houseplants, and gardens she absolutely adored. She spent countless hours outside tending to her plants, propagating them, moving them around, sharing cuttings with friends and family, and somehow always knowing exactly what each one needed.

That’s where I learned to love plants—and where I learned that sometimes the best way to figure out how to grow something is simply to get your hands dirty and try.

Fast-forward to adulthood, and my own plant collection started growing…and growing…and then growing some more.

Along the way, there has been a lot of trial and error. I’ve experimented with propagation, repotting, chunky soil mixes, semi-hydro and LECA, lighting, fertilizers, pest control, humidity, and just about every other part of keeping houseplants alive and thriving. I’ve learned what works for me, what absolutely does not, and that plant care doesn’t need to be nearly as intimidating as the internet sometimes makes it seem.

Eventually, I realized I wanted to share what I was learning with other plant people.

And Official Plant Mommy was born.

What started as social media content about my plant collection quickly became a community built around approachable plant care, plant propagation, big-box plant finds, uncommon houseplants, practical plant hacks, and the occasional questionable plant-buying decision.

I’m not here to pretend there’s one perfect way to grow a plant. I’d rather explain the why, experiment with different methods, share what happens, and hopefully save you from making at least a few of the mistakes I’ve already made.

As Official Plant Mommy has grown, I’ve also started bringing together the products I genuinely love using—or wish existed—for people who are just as obsessed with their plants as I am.

Because at the end of the day, this all goes back to a little girl following her grandma around a Southern California garden, learning that plants are meant to be grown, propagated, shared, and loved.
